Motihari : Nepal continues to reel under the flood fury following heavy and incessant rain for week in the catchments areas of rivers in the country. The flood has wreaked havoc in Nepal and the people are facing the worst flood in recent times. The southern part of Nepal  known as tarai area  adjoining  Bihar in India has been ravaged  due to the flood. As the flood water has already receded from a vast inundated areas, the trail of destruction is getting more visible.

Several pillars erected on India-Nepal border on No Man’s Land  were either uprooted or damaged in the flood. According to an official report, four bounday pillars in Kapilvastu  district were destroyed and caved in the flood while 6 other pillars were damaged  in Gaur and Rautahat districts. There are 8,553 boundary pillars in a stretch of  1,880 km on both sides along Indo-Nepal border.

It may be recalled that India and Nepal have agreed to install global positioning system (GPS) in every boundary pillar..This decision was taken at the Nepal-India boundary working group meet held at Deharadun in India on August 26 , 2017. The process of GPS installation is yet to be completed. The installation  of GPS in all boundary pillars will facilitate relocation of
pillars if they  are  damaged in natural disaster or due to encroachments.
