Ranchi : In amajor setback to BJP led NDA governmen headed by Raghubar Das, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on May 31, 2018, retaining both Silli and Gomia assembly seats in Jharkhand the bypolls to which were held on May 28, 2018.

JMM candidate Seema Devi Mahto won the Silli seat defeating All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), an ally of the BJP, candidate Sudesh Mahto by a margin of 13,510 votes. Sudesh Mahto is a former Minister.The result was declared by by District Returning Officer RM Ray.

JMM candidate Babita Devi won the Gomia seat defeating the AJSU candidate Lambodar Mahto by over 1,300 votes with BJP candidate Madhavlal Singh finishing third. JMM has retained both the Silli and Gomia seats. Both BJP and AJSU had contested the Gomia seat separately.
