Serena, Halepl, Osaka, Bianca enter QFs of Rogers Cup at Toronto

Patna : Reigning Wimbledon Champion and World No 4 in WTA rankings Simona Halep.Romania, brushed aside World No 198 Svetlana Kuznetsova, 34, Russia, 6-2, 6-1 in the Round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals of Rogers Cup at Toronto, Canada, on August 9, 2019.

Halep, the 4th seed,  won 4 break points to none by Kuznetsova, the winner of two Grand Slam singles titles including French Open in 2009. The Romanian also won 7 games in a row in the match. She won 35 service points to 25 by the Russian. None of the two players served any Ace in the match. Halep, winner of two Gran d Slam singles titles, will face World No 91 Marrie Bouzkova, 21, Czech Republic,  in the QFs at 5.45 am on August 10, 2019.

World 2 Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, will face winner of 23 Grand Slam singles title and World No 10 Serena Williams, 37, USA, in the QFs on August 10. Second seed Osaka, the reigning US Open and Australian Open Champion, beat World No 65 Iga Swiatek, 18, Poland, 7-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Serena defeated World No 48 Ekaterina Alexandrova, 24, Russia, 7-5, 6-4 in the Round of 16 on August 9.

World No Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic,  will face World No 27 Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, while World No 7 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, will face World No World No 29 Sofia Kenin, 20, USA, in QFs on August 9, 2019, late night.
