Serena enters Wimbledon Round of 16, Venus loses

Patna : Winner of 23 Grand Slam women’s singles titles including 7 Wimbledon titles Serena Williams, 36, USA, entered the Round of 16 of Wimbledon tennis championship on July 6, 2018, defeating World No 62 Kristina Mladenovic, 25, France, 7-5, 7-6 in a tough contest in the third round at the Centre Court. Serenais currently ranked World No 183rd in WTA rankings.

Serena fired 13 Aces in the match to 3 by Mladenovic. Serena won 3 break points while Mladenovic won 2. Serena’s winning percentage on both her first and second serve was better than that of her rival. Serena had won Wimbledon singles title in 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016.

But, five time champion and World No 9 Venus Williams, 38, USA, lost to World No 20 Kiki Bertens, 26, Netherlands, in the third round. Bertens beat Venus 6-2, 6-7, 8-6 to enter the Round of 16. Venus committed 7 double faults to 3 by Bertens. Bertens won 7 break points while Venus won 4.

Venus had won Wimbledon singles titles in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008.
