Serena crushes Sharapova to enter US Open 2nd round, Mladenovic stuns Kerber

Patna : World No 54 Kristina Mladenovic, 26, France, stunned World No 14 and 2016 champion Angelique Kerber, 31, Germany, in the women’s singles first round of US Open at New York City, New York, USA, in three-sets on August 26, 2019, late night.

Mladenovic beat Kerber, the winner of three Grand Slam titles including Wimbledon Championships in 2018, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 to enter the 2nd round of the event. Kerber though won 5 break points in the match to 4 by Mladenovic. Kerber also won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by Mladenovic. The World No 54 won 58 service points to 55 by the German.

Six time champion and World No 8 Serena Williams, 37, USA, demolished World No 87 Maria Sharapova, 32, Russia, 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the 2nd round of US Open on August 27, 2019, early morning. Serena won 5 break points in the match to none by Sharapova, the winner of five Grand Slam singles title. Serena won 7 games in a row in the match. Sharapova had won US Open title in 2006.
