Patna : Serbia beat Spain 2-1 in the final at Sydney, Australia, to lift the 24-nation inaugural ATP Cup on January 12, 2020. World No 2 Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, beat World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, in straight sets in the second singles to level the tie 1-1. World No 10 Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, had earlier defeated World No 34 Dusan Lajovic, Serbia, in straight sets to give Spain a 1-0 lead. Serbia won the double match to win the tie 2-1.
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 in 1 hr 55 minutes breaking the Spaniard’s service in the first game of the match and then held his own to lead 2-0. Djokovic also broke Nadal’s service in the 7th game of first set to win it 6-2. Almost all the games in the first set were lengthy due to Nadal’s fighting spirit. The second set went to the tie-breaker. Djokovic now leads Nadal 29-26 Head to Head.
Djokovic fired 12 Aces in the match to 5 by Nadal. Djokovic won 2 break points, both in first set, to none by Nadal. The Serbian’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (84 % & 69 %) was much higher than that of Nadal ( 76% & 38 %). Djokovic also won 3 games in a row in the match. He won 50 service points to 45 by Nadal.
Earlier, World No 10 Roberto Bautista Agut, 31, Spain, beat Dusan Lajovic, Serbia, 7-5, 6-1 in 1hr 37 minutes to give Spain a 1-0 lead. Agut won 5 break points in the match to 2 by Lajovic. He won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Serbian. Agut won 39 service points to 27 by Lajovic, 29. Agut’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (66 % & 71 %) was much higher than that of Lajovic (60 % & 29 %).
The Serbian pair of Novak Djokovic & Viktor Troicki beat the pair of Feliciano Lopez & Pablo Carreno Busta, Spain, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in 75 minutes to win the doubles match and win the tie 2-1.
