Seppi upsets top seed Tsitsipas in Sydney International

Patna : World No 37 in ATP rankings Andreas Seppi, 34, Italy, upset top seed and World No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, in the quarter-finals of Sydney International, Sydney, Australia, an ATP hard court event, on January 10, 2019.

Seppi stunned Tsitsipas in a three-set thriller 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to enter the semi-finals of the tournament. Tsitsipas fired 15 Aces in the match to just 2 by Seppi. But, he also committed 7 double faults to none by Seppi. Seppi won 2 break points to 1 by Tsitsipas. Seppi won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by his opponent. Seppi’s winning percentage (78%) on his second serve was much better than that of Tsitsipas ( 53%).

World No 19 and 3rd seed Diego Schwartzman, 26, Argentina, also advanced to the semi-finals on January 10 beating World No 75 Yoshihito Nishioka, 23, Japan, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 in the quarter-finals. Schwartzman served 7 Aces in the match to 5 by his rival. Schwartzman won 3 break points to 2 by Nishioka. Schwartzman’s winning percentage ( 82%) on his first serve was much better than that of Nishioka ( 63%). Schwartzman won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Nishioka. Schwartzman will face Seppi in the semi-finals on January 11, 2019.
