Patna : The Supreme Court on August 1, 2017, agreed to hear a petition seeking cancellation of Bihar legislative council membership of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar alleging he was an accused in a murder case of 1991 at Barh in Patna district. The Apex Court said it will look into the matter after petitioner M L Sharma, an advocate, requested the court for an urgent hearing. The court said it would see when the matter could be listed for hearing. Sharma had filed the petition on July 31, 2017.
After the fall of the Grand Alliance (GA) government on July 26, 2017, and swearing in of Nitish Kumar for the sixth time as the chief minister on July 27, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and his younger son and former Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav had said that Nitish is an accused in a 1991 murder case. Incindentally, they never talked the case when Nitish headed the GA government for 20 months since November 2015.
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy CM and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo) has said that in the next three days he woould expose Lalu’s alleged link with sand mafia. Over one hundred persons were rounded up in Patna, Bhojpur and 6 other districts in police action against sand mafia during last 48 hours and dozen of trucks laden with sand were seized. A case has been lodged against an RJD legislator in connection with illegal sand mining, said police sources. Nitish Kumar on July 31 appointed K K Pathak, an IAS of 1990 batch and a bureaucrat of repute, as Principal Secretary, Mines and Geology.
Modi, who also holds the Environment and Forest portfolio, has also ordered a fresh probe into `soil scam’ and his Tej Pratap Yadav’s alleged role in it. Tej Pratap is the elder son of Lalu Prasad.
