Patna : Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (SGBP) remained closed for the public even on January 1, 2018, as H5N1 Avian Influenza  sweeping the park has claimed the lives of 8 birds since December 15, 2018. The spraying of medicine in the Birds and Animal enclosures and at other places continued on January 1 along with sanitisation work.

SGBP authorities have sent blood and other samples of 26 species of birds by air to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseazes, Bhopal, for tests. SGBP Director Amit Kumar on January 1 claimed that all birds and animals of the park were safe and secured.

Apart from SGBP, seven new cases H5N1 Avian Influenza were reported from the state capital Patna on December 31, 2018, with 6 crows and a Drove dying due to it on College of Art & Crafts campus.
