Patna : World No 17 Sameer Verma, 24, India, beat World No 16 Kanta Tsuneyama, 23, Japan, in straight games on October 16, 2019, to advance to the second round of Danisa Denmark Open, Odense, Denmark, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 badminton tournament.

Sameer, whose elder brother and World No 37 Sourabh Verma lost in the first round on October 15, 2019, beat Tsuneyama 21-11, 21-11 in 29 minutes in first round at Odense Sportspark, Denmark. Sameer won 42 rallies in the match to 22 by Tsuneyama. He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 2 by the Japanese. Sameer and Tsuneyama are now locked 1-1 Head to Head.
