Patna : World No 31 Sameer Verma,  26, India, defeated World No 17 Rasmus Gemke, 24, Denmark, in straight games in 2nd round on January 21, 2021, to march into the quarterfinals of Toyota Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton tournament at Bangkok, Thailand. But, H S Pranoy, India, lost in 2nd round to Liew Daren, Malaysia, in straight games.

Sameer Verma, who had defeated 8th seed Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia, in first round on January 19, 2021, beat Rasmus Gemke 21-12, 21-9 in 39 minutes to enter the QFs of the event. Sameer won 42 rallies in the match to 21 by Gemke. He won 8 consecutive points in the match to 3 by the Dane. Sameer now leads Geme 3-0 Head to Head.

4th Seed Viktor Axelsen, 27, Denmark, who had won Yonex Thailand Open singles title,an HSBC World Tour Super 1,000 event, on January 17, 2021, beat Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Thailand, in straight games 21-11, 21-13 in 38 minutes to enter the QFs. Axelsen won 42 rallies in the match to 24 by Kunlavut. The Dane won 8 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Kunlavut. Axelsen now leads Kunlavut 2-0 Head to Head.

2nd Seed Chou Tien Chen, 31, Taiwan, beat World No 37 Brice Leverdez, 34, France,  in straight games 21-19, 21-16 in 48 minutes in 2nd round to enter the QFs. Chen won 42 rallies in the match to 35 by Leverdez. He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Lebverdez. But, Leverdez stiilleads Chen 8-3 Head to Head.

Unseeded Lee Cheuk Yiu, 24, Hong Kong, the World No 20, upset 5th seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, 24, Indonesia, in a three-game thriller 21-19, 1321, 21-12 in 61 minutes to enter the QFs. Lee won 55 rallies in the match to 52 by Ginting, who had reached the Sfs of Yonex Thailand Open Open last week. Lee won 7 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Ginting. Lee now leads Ginting 2-1 Head to Head.
