Patna : World No 14 Sameer Verma, 24, India, upset World No 10 Tommy Sugiarto, 30, Indonesia, in straight games in his second round robin stage match in Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals 2018 at Tianhe Gymnasium, Guangzhou, China, on December 13, 2018.

Sameer, who had lost to World No 1 Kento Momota, 24, Japan, in straight games on December 12, beat Sugiarto 21-16, 21-7 in 40 minutes. Sameer won 42 rallies in the match to 23 by Sugiarto, son of former world champion Icuk Sugiarto. Sameer won 9 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Tommy Sugiarto. Sameer now leads Sugiarto 2-1 head to head.

World No 1 Kento Momota beat World No 17 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 20, Thailand, in straight games 21-15, 21-7 in 44 minutes in his second round robin match. Momota won 44 rallies in the match to 22 by Wangcharoen. Momota won 7 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Wangcharoen.
