Patna : Wiorld No 18 Maria Sakkari, 25, Greece, and World No 33 Barbora Krejcikova, 25, Czech Republic, reached the women’s single semi-finals of French Open, a Grand Slam tournament played on clay courts at Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France, winning their respective quarter-finals matches in straight sets on June 9, 2021. The two players will  clash in second semi-finals on June 10, 2021. In the first SF, 31st seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 29, Russia, will face World No 85 Tamara Zidansek, 23, Slovenia.

World No 18 Maria Sakkari upset defending champion & 8th seed Iga Swiatek, 20, Poland, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in quarter-final on court Philippe-Chatrier on June 9, 2021, firing 5 Aces during the match to reach her first Grand Slam semi-finals. Sakkari won 3 break points in nthe match to 1 by Swiatek, the highest seeded women player left in the tournament. Sakkari, the 17th seed,  also won 5 games in a row during the match to 2 by the Pole. Both the players committed 2 double faults each in the tournament. Sakkari, in all, won 69 points in the match to 54 by World No 9 Swiatek.

World No 33 Krejcikova beat World No 25 Coco Coro Gauff, 17, USA, in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 in quarter-final on court Philippe-Chatrier on June 9, 2021, to reah her first Grand Slam SFs. Krejcikova won 4 break points in the match to 3 by 24th seed Gauff. The Czech, however, committed 8 double faults in the match to 7 by Gauff. Krejcikova won 7 games in a row during the match to 3 by Gauff. The Czech, in all, won 90 points in the match to 73 by Gauff.
