Patna : World No 10 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Saina Nehwal, India, lost to World No 9 Sung Ji Hyun, South Korea, in a three-set thriller in the first round of China Open 2018 on September 18, 2018. Hyun beat Saina 20-22, 21-8, 21-14 in 48 minute at Changzhou, China. But, World No P V Sindhu, 23, India, entered the second round of the tournament beating World No 39 Saena Kawakami, Japan, 21-15, 21-13 in 26 minute.

In the men’s section, World No 6 Son Wan Ho, South Korea, beat World No 46 Lee Cheuk Yiu, Hong Kong, 19-21, 21-5, 21-13 in the first round in 51 minute. World No 10 Anthony Sinisukan Ginting, Indonesia, beat World No 15 Lin Dan, China, in three-sets 22-24, 21-5, 21-19 in the first round in 54 minute.

World No 1 Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, beat World No 26 Khosit Phetpradab, Thailand, 21-12, 21-15 in the first round of the tournament in 30 minute. World No 7 Chen Long, China, beat World No 31 Huang Yuxiang, China, 20-22, 21-19, 21-13 in the first round in 75 minute.
