Patna : World No 8 Saina Nehwal, 29, India, entered the women’s singles second round of  Toyota Thailand Open beating World No 67 Phittayaporn Chaiwan, 18, Thailand, in straight games in first round at Indoor Stadium Huamark, Bangkok, Thailand, on July 31, 2019. Saina beat Chaiwan 21-17, 21-19 in 39 minutes to advance to the 2nd round. Saina won 42 rallies in the match to 36 by Chaiwan.

But, World No 101 Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka, India, a qualifier, lost to World No 23 Chen Xiao Xin, China, 17-21, 7-21 in only 27 minutes in the first round. Chen won rallies in the match to 24 by Sai. She won 6 consecutive points in a row to 3 by Sai.

In a men’s singles, World No 35 Parupalli Kashyap, India, defeated World No 43 Misha Zilberman, 30, Israel, in three games 18-21, 21-8, 21-14 in 51 minutes in the first round.

World No 19 B Sai Praneeth, India, beat World No 15 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Thailand, 17-21, 21-17, 21-15 in 71 minutes in the first round. Praneeth won 59 rallies in the match to 53 by Kantaphon. Praneeth now leads Kantaphon 4-0 Head to Head.
