Saharsa CS announces probe into death of child during delivery

Saharsa : Civil Surgeon (CS), Saharsa, Dr Ashok Kumar Singh on August 21, 2017, announced a probe into the negligence by Sadar Hospital doctors during delivery of one Nikki Devi, a resident of Domrahi Ward number 2 under Udakishunganj block in Mahepura district, resulting in death of her child. The Civil Surgeon said that action would be taken against the doctor and para-medical staff concerned on the basis of the inquiry report.

Nikki’s mother Vimal Devi has lodged an FIR with Sadar Police station, Saharsa, against Dr R Mohan and two nurses of Sadar Hospital, Saharsa, Sonu and Punita, in connection with  the incident. Vimal Devi alleged that the two nurses of Sadar hospital had collected Rs 3,000 from her in the name of operation of her daughter while she spent Rs 940 on her Ultrasound and blood test outside the hospital.

Nikki’s husband had brought her over to Sadar Hospital, Saharsa, for delivery on August 21 morning itself. She was admitted to the hospital but the doctor concerned did not bother to examine her. When she developed labour pain, the nurse on duty got busy with her delivery. But only the upper postion of the child could come out. The nurse informed the doctor and requested him to come over. But, the doctor did not come to the hospital. Nikki continued writhing in pain for hours. Finally, Dr R Mohan reached hospital at 4 pm and referred her to other hospital.

Nikki was taken to a private hospital of Dr R Patel by her husband Azad Mandal and relatives where she was administered an injection after which she delivered a stillborn child. Nikki is still under treatment there.  SHO, Sadar police station, Saharsa, Bhai Bharat, said police were inquiring into the incident.
