Patna : South Africa (SA) thumped India by 7 wickets in 2nd ODI at Boland Park, Paarl, SA, on January 21, 2022, night, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in three-match ODI series as its openers Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock scored 91 and 78 runs respectively adding 132 runs for the first wicket. India had won the toss and opted to bat and scored 287/6 in 50 overs with Rishabh Pant (wk) scoring 85 runs while opener K L Rahul ( captain) scored 55 runs. Quinton de Kock was named Player Of The Match.
Chasing a target of 288 runs, SA scored scored 288/3 in 48.1 overs as Aiden Markram and jRassie van der Dussen added 74 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket. Markram remained unbeaten on 37 runs in 41 balls with 4 fours while Rassie Dussen remained 37 not out in 38 balls with 2 fours.
Quinton de Kock fell to all-rounder Shardul Thakur for 78 in 66 balls hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes while Janneman Malan fell to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 91 in 108 balls with 8 fours and 1 six. Temba Bavuma ( captain) fell to spinner Uzvendra Chahal for 35 in 36 balls with 3 fours. India bowlers have remained ineffective in the ODI series so far.
Batting first, India openers K L Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan added 63 runs for the first wicket. Dhawan fell to fast medium bowler Sisanda Magala for 29. Virat Kohli fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for zero. Shreyas Iyer fell to spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for 11 runs while Venkatesh Iyer fell to medium fast bowler Andile Phehlukwayo for 22.
Shardul Thakur and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin added 48 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket. Thakur, who had scored and unbeaten 51 in first ODI, again remained unbeaten on 40 in 38 balls with 3 fours and 1 six while Ashwin remained unbeaten on 25 in 24 balls with 1 four and 1 six.
