Patna : South Africa were all out for 431 in 131.2 overs in  their first innings in the first session of play on Day 4 in the 1st Test against India at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on October 5, 2019, as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 7/145 in 46.2 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took 2/124 in 40 overs while Ishant Sharma took 1/54 in 16 overs.

Senuran Muthusamy remained unbeaten on 33 in 106 balls with 4 fours. Kagiso Rabada fell to Ashwin for 15. Vernon Philander also fell to Ashwin for a duck.

In Reply, India were 21/1 in 9 overs their 2nd innings with Rohit Sharma is batting on 14 while Cheteswar Pujara is yet to score. Opener Mayank Agarwal fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for 7 in 31 balls with 1 four. India had declared their first innings at 502/7.
