Patna : South Africa (SA) were all out for 197 runs in 62.3 overs in their first innings in 1st test against India at SuperSport Park, Centurion, SA, on day 3 on December 28, 2021, as fast medium bowler Mohd Shami took 5/44 in 16 overs reaching the 200 wickets mark while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and fast medium bowler Shardul Thakur took two wickets each. fast bowler Mohd Siraj took one wicket. For SA, Temba Bavuma scored 52 runs, his 16th test fifty, while Quinton de Kock scored 34 runs.

SA captain Dean Elgar (opener) fell to Bumrah for 1 while Keegan Petersen fell to Shami for 15. Opener Aiden Markram too fell to Shamu for 13 making it 30/3. Rassie van der Dussen fell to Siraj for 3 runs and SA were reduced to 32/4. But, Bavuma and de Kock added 72 runs for the 5th wicket. de Kock fell to Shardul Thakur for 34 making it 104/5.

All-rounder Wiaan Mulder fell to Sjhami for 12 and it was 133/6. Babuma followed him falling to Shami making it 144/7.  All-rounder Marco Jansen fell to Thakur for 19 and it was 181/8. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada fell to Shami for 25 in 45 balls with 3 fours and 1 six of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin making it 193/9. Spinner Keshav Maharan fell to Bumrah for 12.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 272/3, India were all out for 327 runs in 105.3 overs in their first innings in a sensational collapse with fast bowler Lungi Ngidi taking 6/71 in 24 overs while fellow fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 3/72 in 26 overs.Marco Jansen took 1 wicket.

For India, opener K L Rahul scored 123, his 7th test century.Rahul fell to Rabada while Rahane fell to Ngidi for 48. Rishabh Pant (wk) also fell to Ngidi for 8 while Ashwin fell to Rabada for 4. Shardul Thakur also fell to Rabada for 4. Shami fell to Ngidi for 8 while Bumrah fell to Jansen for 14.
