Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, South Africa (SA) were 238/3 in 90 overs in their first innings at stumps ob day 1 in 2nd test against New Zealand (NZ) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on February 25, 2022, as opener Sarel Erwee, 32, scored 108 runs in 221 balls hitting 14 fours, his maiden test ton, while his opening partner Dean Elgar ( captain) scored 41 in 101 balls with 3 fours.

Elgar and Erwee, who is playing in his second test,added 111 runs for the first wicket. Elgar fell to fast medium bowler Tim SoutheeĀ  making it 111/1. Erwee and Aiden Markram then added 88 runs for the 2nd wicket. Markram fell to fast medium bowler Neil Wagner for 42 in 103 balls hammering 8 fours and it was 199/2 Erwee also fell the same score within 2 balls falling to fast medium bowler Matt Henry making it 199/3. At stumps on day 1, Temba Bavuma was unbeaten on 22 in 58 balls with 4 fours while Rassie van der Dussen was 13 not out in 61 balls.
