Patna  :Chasing a target of 240 runs, South Africa (SA) were 118/2 after 40 overs  in their second innings at stumps on day 3 in 2nd test against India at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, SA, on January 5, 2022, night, with captain Dean Elgar (opener) unbeaten on 46 in 121balls with 2 fours and Rassine van der Dussen batting on 11 in 37 balls.

Opener Aiden Markram fell to fast medium bowler Shardul Thkur for 31 while Keegan Petersen fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 28.  SA need 122 runs to win this match and level the three-match test series 1-1.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score 85/2, India were all out for 266 runs in 60.1 overs in their second innings in 2nd session of play on day 3 with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring 53 runs in 86 balls with 10 fours and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 58 in 78 balls with 8 fours and 1 six. Pujara and Rahane added 111 runs for 3rd wicket. Both fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada making it 163/4. All-rounder Hanuma Viharo remained unbeaten on 40 in 84 balls with 6 fours. Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakr made a quickfire 28 in 24 balls with 5 fours and 1 six while Ashwin made 16 runs with 2 fours. Rishabh pant (wk) fell to Rabada for zero.

India had scored 202 runs in their first innings while SA had scored 229 runs in their first innings.
