Patna : South Africa made 269/8 in 50 overs in the first ODI against India at Kingsmead, Durban, South Africa, on February 1, 2018, riding on a brilliant 120 in 112 balls from skipper Faf du Plesis, his 9th ODI ton, hitting 11 fours and 2 sixes and 37 in 43 balls from all rounder Chris Morris hitting 4 fours and a six. Du Plessis made his century in only 101 balls.

South Africa wicketkeeper and opener Quinton de Cock made 34 in 49 balls hitting 4 fours while Andile Phehukwayo remained unbeaten on 26 in 32 balls hitting a four and a six. J P Duminy made 12, opener Hashim Amla 16 and David Miller 7. Aiden Markram made 9 runs.

For India, wrist spinner Kuldip Yadav took 3/34 in 10 0vers while another wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 2/45 in 10 overs. Bhuvaneshwar was off colour in the match leaking away 71 runs in 10 overs taking only one wicket. Jasprit Bumrah took 1/56 in 10 overs. Kagiso Rabada was run out. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first.
