Patna : South Africa were 347/8 in 112 overs in their first innings against Australia on the third day of the second cricket at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on March 11, 2018, with A B de Villiers batting on 111 with 18 fours and a six, his 22nd ton in tests, and spinner Keshav Maharaj on 16 not out with 2 sixes. South Africa lead by 104 runs. Australia had scored 243 runs in yheir first innings.

Resuming at their overnight score of 263/7, South Africa lost their 8th wicket at 311 when Vernon Philander was out before lunch to Pat Cummins after scoring 36 runs in 85 balls with 5 fours.  de Villers and Philander were involved in a 84 run partnership for the 8th wicket.
