Patna : South Africa were 344/6 at tea in their second innings on the fourth day and final day of the 4th cricket test against Australia at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa, on April 2, 2018, with Temba Bavuma batting on 35 in 40 balls with 4 fours and Vernon Philander batting on 33 in 49 balls with 2 sixes and a four. South Africa, who had scored 488 in the first innings, lead by 611 runs. Australia had made 221 in their first innings.

Earlier, South Africa Captain Faf du Plessis, who was out without scoring in the first innings, scored 120 in 178 balls in the second innings, his 8th test century, while opener Dean Elgar was out for 81 in 250 balls. du Plessis hit 18 fours and 2 sixes while Elgar hit 10 fours and a six. For Australia, Pat Cummins took 4/58 while Nathan Lyon took 2/116.

South Africa have delayed declaring their second innings due to injury to its main bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel. Incidently, Australia have lost all the thirteen times they were set a target of 500 plus runs.
