Patna : South Africawere 333/7 after 100 overs in their second innings against Australia at lunch on day four of the third cricket test at Newlands, Cape Town, with Vernon Philander batting on 39 in 50 balls with 5 fours and a six while Kagiso Rabada was unbeaten on 4.
Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 238/5, South Africa lost the wicket A B de Villiers (63) when the score was 269 and that of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock (65) when the score was 324. de Villiers and Kock were involved in a 68 run partnership for the sixth wicket. Kock and Philander were involved in a 55 run partnership for the 7th wicket. For Australia, Pat Cummins has taken 3/67 and Josh Hazlewood 2/57. Mitchell Starc and spinner Nathan Lyon have taken one wicket each.
Smith sacked as Captain: Earlier, in a dramatic turn of events, Cricket Australia (CA) sacked Australian Captain Steven Smith and Vice-Captain David Warner from their respective posts in the wake of ball tampering controvesy on the field on March 24 when South Africa were batting. Smith while admitting the ball tampering had on March 24 said that he will not step down. Obviously, CA saw things differently. Wicketkeeper Tim Paine was leading Australia on day four.
