Patna : South Africa were 238/5 in 72 overs at stumps on the third day in their second inninags against Australia in the third cricket at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, on March 24, 2018, with A B de Villers batting on 51 in 103 balls with 6 fours and a six andwicketkeeper Quinton de Kock batting on 29 in 33 balls with 2 fours and a six.

Opener Aiden Markram scored 84 with 10 fours and 2 sixes while fellow opener Dean Elgar, who made an unbeaten 141 in the first innings, was out for 14. Hashim Amlamade 31 in 80 balls with 5 fours while South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was out for 20 in 44 balls. Temba Bavuma was out after making only 5 runs, his second failure in the test. Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins took 2/47 in 19 overs. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc took one wicket each. Spinner Nathan Lyon took 1/69 in 16 overs.

South Africa lead by 294 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Australia were all out for 255 in their first innings with fast bowlers Kagiso abada and Morne Morkel takings four wickets each. South Africahas made 311 in their first innings.
