Patna : South Africa were 134/3 in 56 overs at stumps in their second innings on day three in the 4th cricket test against Australia at Wanderers Stadium, South Africa, on April 1, 2018, with opener Dean Elgar batting on 39 in 158 balls with 6 fours and Captain Faf du Plessis batting on 34 in 69 balls with 6 fours. South Africa, who had scored 488 runs in their first innings, have thus taken a lead of 401 runs with seven wickets in hand. South Africa lead the four-match test series 2-1.

Opener Aiden Markram, who had scored 152 in the first innings, was out for 37 in 56 balls with 4 fours in the second innings. A B de Villers, who had scored 69 in the first innings, was out for 6 in the second innings while Hashim Amla scored 16 in 48 balls. Amla had made 27 in the first innings.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 110/6, Australia were all out for 221 in their first innings with Captain and wicketkeeper Tim Paine scoring 62 in 96 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes and fast bowler Pat Cummins scoring 50 in 92 balls with 6 fours and a six. Tim Paine and Cummins were involved in a 99 run partnership for the 7th wicket.

For South Africa, pacers Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander, and spinner Keshav Maharaj took three wickets each while Morne Morkel took one wicket.
