Patna : World No 22 Elena Rybakina, 21, Kazakhstan, stunned World No 8 & winner of 23 Grand Slam women’s singles titles Serena Williams, 39, USA, in 4th round of French Open on June 6, 2021, to enter the QF of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

Rybakina beat Serena in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in women’s singles 4th round  of French Open on court Philippe -Chatrier, Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 6, 2021, dashing her hope of winning the record equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title at French Open. The exit of top tennis players early in the tournament had made Serena’s task somewhat easier but Rybakina handed her over a shock defeat.

Rybakina won 5 break points during the match to 3 by Serena, the winner 3 french Open women’s singles titles ( 2002, 2013 & 2015). Rybakina, in all, won 66 points during the match to 51 by 7th seed Serena Williams. She also fired 4 Aces in the match to 2 by the American. Rybakina though committed 4 double faults to 1 by Serena. But, she won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 b Serena.
