Patna : Russia defeated Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the first match of FIFA World Cup 2018  at Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia, on June 14, 2018. Denis Cheryshev scored two goals while Yuri Gazinsky, Artem Dzyuba, and  Alexandr Golovin scored one goal each. Golovin was shown first yellow card of the match.

Over 78,000 spectators watched the opening match of the World Cup. Russia totally outplayed Saudi Arabia in the match. President Vladimir Putin declared the tournament open.
