Gopalganj : With the  death of injured Shantun Chawdhary at Gorakhpur, UP, on May 25, 2020, morning, the death toll  in firing on CPI(ML) leader J P Chaudhary on May 24, 2020, evening, at his native village Rupanchak under Hathua  police station in Gopalganj  District in North Bihar, increased to three.

Mahesh Chaudhary, 70  and Sankesha Chaudhary, 65 ,father and mother of  J P Chaudhary, were  killed on the spot while Shantun
Chaudhary and JP Chaudhary had sustained serious injuries in the shoot out carried out by four motorcycle borne criminals. JP  Chaudhary is admitted to the District Hospital at Gopalganj  while his brother Shantun, who was  referred  to  Gorakhpur Medical College Hospital, succumbed  to his  injuries there on May 25.

J P Chaudhary, in his  statement  to police, has  alleged that JD(U) MLA Amarendra Kumar Pandey,  his son, and brother had attacked him and his family members when they were sitting on the verandah of his home  at Rupanchak  on May 24 evening  Ashok Kumar,  SHO, Hathua police station,  said the MLA , his son, and brother have been made accused in this  triple murder case.

Gopalganj SP Manoj Kumar Tiwari has also  visited the spot.  The reason behind the shootout is political, alleged J P Chaudhary  and added that he has decided to  contest  next assembly election  from Kuchaykot assembly constituency in the district. SHO,  Hathua Police Station, Ashok Kumar, said Mukesh Pandey, nephew of JD(U) MLA  Amrendra Kumar Pandey and Chairman, Zila Parishad, Gopalganj,  and Satish Pandey, brother of the MLA, had been arrested by police.
