Patna : World No 43 Andrey Rublev, 21, Russia, who had stunned World No 3 Roger Federer, Switzerland, in Round of 16 of Cincinnati Masters in USA on August 16, 2019, beat World No 8 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, in the first round of US Open at New York City, New York, USA, on August 27, 2019, late night in four-sets causing a major upset in the tournament.

Rublev beat Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 in a tough encounter. Tsitsipas though fired 20 Aces in the match to 14 by the fast rising Russian. Tsitsipas also committed 7 double faults to 6 by Rublev. The Russian won 5 break points in the match to 3 by Tsitsipas. The Russian won 3 games in a row to 2 by the 8th seed. Rublev will faceĀ  World No 40 Gilles Simon, 34, France, in second round.

World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, advanced to the 2nd round defeating World No 41 Radu Albot, 29, Moldova, in a five-set marathon 6-1, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2 in first round. Zverev won 9 break points in the match to 5 by Albot. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Albot. The German fired 9 Aces in the match to 3 by Albot. Zverev will face World No 45 Frances Tiafoe, 21, USA, in second round.

World No 70 Pablo Andujar, 31, Spain, upset World No 31 Kyle Edmund, 24, UK, in a five-set thriller 3-6, 7-6, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 to enter the 2nd round. Andujar won 7 break points in the match to 6 by Edmund. He also won 6 games in a row in the match to 5 by Edmund. Endumnd though fired 12 Aces in the match to 7 by the Spaniard.
