Ara: A bridge constructed at a cost of ove Rs 3 crore over river Ksher near village Utterdaha under Jagdishpur block in Bhojpur district and inaugurated by CM Nitish Kumar on June 10, 2011, through remote control from Patna, has turned out to be a show piece only as in the absence of a link road communication through the bridge has not yet started even after five year of its inauguration. This bridge was built under Chief Minister Bridge Construction Scheme for the benefit of the local people especially the businessmen and the farmers.
Utterdaha village is known for cultivation of vegetables especially brinjal, onion, cauliflower and these vegetables are produced in large quantity here. The farmers try to send them to different markets in Bhojpur district but face difficulty in reaching these vegetable markets as they have to cover a long distance. Had the link road been constructed, the distance between the village and the market would have been reduced by at least 10 km.
Arun Kushwaha of the area said that had the communication started through the bridge, it would have benefited the farmers and businessmen. The students are most affected as boys and girls of Katai Bojh village have to go to school at Araila village to study but they have to cover a long distance or cross the river.
SDO, Jagdishpur, Bal Mukund Prasad he was gathering information about it and would make efforts to start communication through the bridge at the earliest.
