Patna : Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 15 runs in the 40th match of IPL 2018 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on May 8, 2018, due to brilliant bowling by their spin bowlers Krishnappa Gowtham and Ish Sodhi, New Zealand.

Opting to bat first after wining the toss, RR scored 158/8 in 20 overs riding on a 58 ball 82 with 9 fours and a sixe by their opener and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, England. In reply, KXIP could score only 143/7 in 20 overs though their opener and wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul remained unbeaten on 95 in 70 ball with 11 fours and 2 sixes.

KXIP batsmen including Rahul failed to accelerate the scoring rate in the second half of their innings. That apart, their star player and opener Chris Gayle was out for only 1 while captain Ravichandran Ashwin, who failed to take any wicket in the match, was out for a duck. RR spinner Krishnappa Gowtham accounted for both Gayle and Ashwin. Karun Nair was also out for just 3 while Manoj Tiwary was out for 7. Axar Patel was run out for 9.

For RR, Gowtham took 2/12 in 3 over while Sodhi took 1/14 in 4 overs. Jaidev Unadkat, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes took one wicket each.

RR have now 8 points from 10 matches while KXIP have 12 points from 10 matches. KKR have 10 points from 10 matches. SRH lead the points table with 16 points from 10 matches while CSK have 14 points from 10 matches.
