Sasaram : Rohtas police have arrested three constables of Excise & Prohibition Department and a Homeguards personnel for accepting money from some liquor smugglers and also for patronising liquor smugglers from Sasaram, headquarters of Rohtas District in South Bihar.
Rohtas SP Ashish Bharti said that three constables of Excise Department : Rajiv Kumar, Kavindra Kumar, and Shiv Pujan Kumar, had conducted raid at the house of Bikram Kumar on Gurudwara Road under Sasaram Town police station (PS) in Rohtas District on September 10, 2021, and allegedly demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh from him for not lodging FIR against him under the Excise & Prohibition Act and also helping the liquor smugglers. Bikram Kumar gave Rs. 1 lakh to them but the trio pressurised him to pay the rest Rs 50,000.
The SP said that he got information that the all the three Excise Department constables had called Bikram Kumar at Basti Mor under Sasaram Town PSĀ for taking money from him in lieu of helping the liquor smugglers. Taking serious note of it, the SP formed a police team under SDPO, Sasaram, Vinod Kumar Raut, and sent it to Basti Mor where it arrested Excise Department constable Rajiv Kumar and a Homeguards personnel Rajesh Kumar Pandey red handed accepting Rs 20,000.
Rajiv Kumar and Homeguards personnel said during interrogation that Rs 1 lakh was distributed among Kavindra Kumar, Shiv Pujan Kumar, and liner Dheeraj Goswami. On their revelation, the police team arrested Kavindra Kumar and Shiv Pujan Kumar and recovered Rs 59,050 cash, six mobile phones and a motorcycle from their houses. A named FIR has been lodged with Sasaram Town PS against the four arrested persons and further action is being taken against them, said the SP.
