Sasaram: The Rohtas DM has ordered an inquiry into the payment of Rs 20 lakh of GPF and Group Insurance to a  retired Civil Surgeon (CS) of Rohtas Dr Ashok Kumar Singh without any clearance from the vigilance.

A team of vigilance had arrested the then Civil Surgeon, Rohtas, Dr Ahok Kumar Singh red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from an employee for confirmation of his service in March 2015 and sent him to Beur Jail. Six months after his arrest, the CS retired from the service. Payment of pension and other retiral benefits to him had been banned as a case is pending against him in the court of the vigilance. Meanwhile, District Health Department released payment of Rs 20 lakh of GPF and the Group Insurance to Dr Singh.

Treasury sources said the retiral benefits can not be paid without no objection certificates from the vigilance. Payment without no objection certificate is a serious matter and it would be inquired into. The present CS Dr Naval Kishore Prasad Sinha said that the payment was released at the direction of the senior officials of the department and added that the former CS was released payment without no objection certificate from the vigilance.
