Siwan/Gopalganj: RJD leaders and workers of Siwan and Gopalganj districts staged day-long dharna at their respective district headquarters against demonetisation.
The dharna in Gopalganj was held at Ambedkar Chowk where former RJD MLA and district unit head Reyazul Haq said that even after 50 days of demonetisation, the problems of common people remains unsolved. He said that half population of the country resides in rural areas and by coining the word `cashless’, the Modi government is making a mockery of poor people. The agitation would continue till the poor get justice, he said. RJD MLA Mohd. Nematullah said that the demonetisation has broken the backbone of common people. Others who addressed the day-long dharna included former MLA Kiran Rai, Pintoo Pandey, Gurfan Rashid, Krishna Yadav, Lal Babu Choudhary and Santosh Yadav.
The leaders submitted a memorandum, addressed to PM Narendra Modi, to Gopalganj DM demanding waiving of loans of the farmers, Rs. 50,000 each compensation to those who lost their jobs due to demonetization and adequate compensation to those who died while standing in queue for exchanging scrapped currency notes.
At Siwan, day-long dharna was staged near district collectorate where party leaders including RJD district unit president Parmatma Ram, RJD MLA Harishankar Yadav and MLA Satyadeo Singh participated in the dharna. The party leaders said that demonetisation has only helped `punjipati’ considered close to PM Modi. They said that the arbitrary decision of the PM has adversely affected the farmers of the nation. Every section of the society is feeling the pinch of demonetisation and large number of labourers have lost their jobs due to it, they lamented.
