Buxar : Buxar Fast Track Court II Judge Birendra Prasad on March 24, 2017, sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment one Dharmendra Dubey and also slapped a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh on him for killing Bharat Rai of Buxar. The court also ordered to give 80% of the penalty to the wife of the deceased and if she is not alive, the amount should be distributed among his children. The court had convicted Dharmendra Dubey guilty on March 21, 2017, and had fixed March 24, 2017 for the announcement of quantum of punishment.

Six motorcycle borne armed miscreants had shot dead Bharat Rai near Dudharchak Mor Brahmsthan in Buxar when he was returning home along with his nephew Manoj Rai on his motorcycle on April 2, 2011. An FIR was lodged with  Buxar Town police station on the statement of Manoj Rai against Sheru Singh, Mantu Mishra, Chandan Mishra and other but Dharmendra Singh not for was made accused in the FIR.

After their arrest, Sheru Singh and Chandan Mishra confessed before the police that they were involved in a number of criminal cases but in the murder of Bharat Rai, an inmate of Gorakhpur jail, Dharmendra Singh was responsible. After their confession, police brought Dharmendra Dubey on remand from Gorakhpur to Buxar Central jail. The police arranged TET parade and Manoj Rai identified that Dharmendra Dubey had shot his uncle dead. Sheru Singh refused for the TET parade saying that he was well known to all.
