New Delhi : A record 82,961 COVID-19 patients were declared cured/discharged during last 24 hours in India  taking the tally to 39,42,360 at 8 am on September 16, 2020, exceeding the number of active cases (9,95,933) by a huge margin of 29,46,427. On the other hand, the country reported 90,123 new COVID-19 cases during the same period taking the tally to 50,20,359. Of the 50,20,359 COVID-19 cases reported so far in the country, a total of 39,42,360 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate being 78.53%.

The COVID-19 death toll jumped to 82,066 in India on September 16, 2020,  with 1,290 new deaths being reported from different places across the country during last 24 hours including 515 from Maharashtra, 97 from Karnataka, 68 from Tamilnadu, 69 from Andhra Pradesh, 90 from Punjab, 113 from UP, 59 from West Bengal, 29 from MP, 36 from Delhi, 17 from Gujarat, and 14 from Rajasthan. The Case Fatality Rate had dropped to 1.63% in the country on September 16, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry figure.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on September 16, 2020, is : Maharashtra (30,409), Tamilnadu (8,502), Karnataka (7,481), Delhi (4,806), Andhra Pradesh (5,041), Uttar Pradesh (4,604), West Bengal (4,062), Gujarat (3,244), Madhya Pradesh (1,820), Rajasthan (1,264),  Punjab (2,514), Telengana (996), J&K (914), Haryana (1,026), Bihar (836), Odisha (645), Jharkhand (571), Assam (492), Uttarakhand (438), Kerala (466),  Chhattisgarh (589), Puducherry (405), Goa (315), Tripura (217), Chandigarh (99),  Andaman & Nicobar (52), Himachal Pradesh (90), Ladakh (44), Manipur (47), Nagaland (15), Meghalaya (28), Arunachal Pradesh (13), Sikkim (19), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2 ).
