New Delhi : The exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 patients getting cured continues in India reaching 22,22,577  at 8 am on August 22, 2020, a record high of 63,631 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number of active cases in the country by 15,25,247. The number of active cases in the country was 6,97,330 on August 22, 2020. On August 21, 2020, a total of 62,282 COVID patients were declared cured in India.

Altogether 4,70,873 patients have been declared cured in Maharashtra, 3,07,677 in Tamilnadu, 2,44,045 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,76,942 in Karnataka, 1,42,908 in Delhi, and 1,26,657 in UP till date.  Altogether 3,44,91,073 COVID samples have been tested in the country till date including 10,23,836 on August 21, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry.

The COVID death toll in the country, on the other hand, has jumped to 55,794 with 945 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country during last 24 hours including 339 from Maharashtra, 101 from Tamilnadu, 93 from Karnataka, 91 from Andhra Pradesh, 64 from UP, 55 from West Bengal, 34 from Punjab, 14 from Gujarat, and 13 from Delhi.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on August 22, 2020, is : Maharashtra (21,698), Tamilnadu (6,340), Delhi (4,270), Karnataka (4,522), Gujarat (2,867), Andhra Pradesh (3,092), Uttar Pradesh (2,797), West Bengal (2,689), Madhya Pradesh (1,185), Rajasthan (933),  Punjab (991), Telengana (744), J&K (593), Haryana (585), Bihar (498), Odisha (390), Jharkhand (297), Assam (227), Uttarakhand (192), Kerala (203),  Chhattisgarh (180), Puducherry (143), Goa (135), Tripura (70), Chandigarh (33),  Andaman & Nicobar (32), Himachal Pradesh (25), Manipur (20), Ladakh (19), Nagaland (8), Meghalaya (6), Arunachal Pradesh (5), Sikkim (3), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu ( 2).

As far Bihar figure goes, according to State Health Department, the COVID death toll was 588 in the state on August 21, 2020.
