New Delhi : The phenomenal increase in the number of COVID-19 patients getting cured continues in India reaching 21,58,946 at 8 am on August 21,2020, a record increase of 62,282 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number of active cases in the country by 14,66,918. The number of active cases in the country was 6,92,028 on August 21, 2020.
A total of 4,59,124 COVID patients have been declared cured in Maharashtra, 3,01,913 in Tamilnadu, 2,35,218 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,70,381 in Karnataka, 1,41,826 in Delhi, and 1,21,090 in UP till date. Altogether 3,34,67,237 COVID samples have been tested in the country till date including 8,05,985 on August 20, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry.
COVID-19 death toll in the country, on the other hand, has jumped to 54,849 with 983 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country during last 24 hours including 326 from Maharashtra, 116 from Tamilnadu, 102 from Karnataka, 95 from Andhra Pradesh, 95 from UP, 53 from West Bengal, 36 from Punjab, 22 from Delhi, and 16 from Gujarat.
The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on August 21, 2020, is : Maharashtra (21,359), Tamilnadu (6,239), Delhi (4,257), Karnataka (4,429), Gujarat (2,853), Andhra Pradesh (3,001), Uttar Pradesh (2,733), West Bengal (2,634), Madhya Pradesh (1,171), Rajasthan (921), Punjab (957), Telengana (737), J&K (578), Haryana (578), Bihar (492), Odisha (380), Jharkhand (286), Assam (221), Uttarakhand (187), Kerala (191), Chhattisgarh (168), Puducherry (137), Goa (126), Tripura (69), Chandigarh (31), Andaman & Nicobar (30), Himachal Pradesh (23), Manipur (18), Ladakh (18), Nagaland (8), Meghalaya (6), Arunachal Pradesh (5), Sikkim (3), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu ( 2).
As far Bihar figure goes, according to State Health Department, the COVID death toll was 574 in the state on August 20, 2020.
