Patna : Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) defeated five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by 54 runs in the 39th match of IPL at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, on September 26, 2021, late night, as barring captain Rohit Sharma ( opener) and his opening partner Quinton de Kock all the big hitters of the defending the champion including Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Krunal Pandya failed miserably in the match. RCB have now 12 points from 10 games while MI have 8 points from 10 games.

RCB fast medium bowler Harshal Patel took 4/17 in 3.1 overs including a hat-trick while spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 3/11 in 4 overs. All-rounder Glen Maxwell took 2/23 in 4 overs. MI had won the toss and opted to bowl.

Fast medium bowler Harshal Patel took hat-trick in the 17th over, his 3rd over, taking the wickets of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, amd Rahul Chahar on successive balls. From 56/0 after power play, MI collapsed to be all out for 111 runs in 18.1 overs while chasing a target of 166 runs.  After the departure of Rohit Sharma, MI batsmen failed to hit any six or four.

Rohit and de Kock added 57 runs for the first wicket. De Kock fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for 24 in 23 balls with 4 fours while Rohit fell to all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for 43 in 28 balls hitting 5 fours and 1 six making it 79/2 after 10 overs. Rohit hit fast bowler Kyle Jamieson for 3 fours on successive balls in 3rd over of the innings.

Batting first, RCB had scored 165/6 in 20 overs with Glen Maxwell scoring 56 runs in 37 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes while captain Virat Kohli ( opener) scored 51 runs in 42 balls hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. Opener Devdutt Padikkal was out for a duck while AB de Villiers scored 11 runs.
