Patna : World No 8 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Ratchanok Intanon, 23, Thailand, beat reigning Olympic and World Champion Carolina Marin, 25, the World No 6, in straight games 21-9, 22-20 in the final in 42 minutes at Axiata Arena, Kualalumpur, Malayasia, to lift the women’s singles title at Malaysia Masters, a Super 500 level tournament, on January 20, 2019.
The 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon, the 6th seed, won 43 rallies in the match to 29 by Carolina Marin, a three-time world champion. Intanon won 9 consecutive points in the match to 7 by Carolina, the 4th seed. Ratchanok now leads Carolina 6-3 head to head. Carolina had won World Championship title in 2014, 2015, and 2018 and has won 28 singles titles.
