Rain brings cheers to E Champaran farmers, urban areas facing waterlogging

Motihari : Light to heavy rainfall for five consecutive days in parched North Bihar district East Champaran has brought cheers to the farmers paving way for paddy transplantation in a big way. They are praying for more rain. This continuous rain in
the plains of Someshwar range of Himalaya  is providing relief to the people in the northern part of state on Indo-Nepal border  which were facing rain deficient till last week  with only 10 % of  paddy transplantation. The paddy seedlings were withering away due to lack of  moisture and adequate rain.

The water level  of almost all  hilly and big rivers in East Champaran including Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Lal Bakeya , Bagmati  Tier, Motiya , Kachhua, Tilawe, Sarisawa and Dhanauti  is  rising fast though much below the danger mark till. The road diversion in  Lalbakeya river at Phulwariya under  Sikrahna Sub-Division has been breached due to river flow disrupting road communication between East Champaran and Sitamarhi.

Large number of  people living in rural areas  are very happy following the heavy rains though the urban  population in almost all towns  like Motihari, Raxaul, Chakiya, and  Sugauli  is facing waterlogging. problem  The rain  has thrown  normal life out of gear in Motihari and Raxaul towns. In Motihari town  residents of Chandmari, Lal Bangla, Rajendra Nagar, Gyanbabu Chawk, Hindi Bazar, Dharmsamaj road  and other areas are facing waterlogging with rain water entering many residential buildings and schools. Bishwajeet Mookherjee , a film producer, said Motihari town is stinking due to indifferent attitude of
Nagar Parishad authorities. Arun Kumar Yadav, a Congress leader, said that the road in ward number 15 has been inundated.
