Nawada: Nawada police aided by Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and officials of  Environment and Forest department  from Gaya jointly conducted raid at the defunct Sarda Mines at village Sawaiyatand under Rajauli police station on early Thursday morning and recovered eight double barrel guns, two single barrel guns and 50 cartridges. Police  also arrested 14 persons from the premises inviting the ire of the local people who pelted them with stones. Sarda Mines, now closed, earlier excavated mica and exported to various firms both within and outside the nation.

Rajauli police station SHO Sanjay Gupta, a forest department official from Gaya division AK Trivedi, accompanied by a section of SSB and Rajauli police conducted  raid on Sarda Mines premises following reports of rampant illegal mining. They recovered 8 double barrel and two single barrel guns besides 50 cartridges from a locked room.

The arrested persons claimed to be security guards deployed to protect the machinery and property of the mine. Their claims of being security guards are being verified as also the license of the guns recovered. On their way to Rajauli, the locals protested the arrest of 14  persons and pelted police with stones.
