Patna : Qualifier Emma Raducanu, 18, UK, created record by winning the US Open women’s singles title defeating another teenage Leylah Annie Fernandez, 19, Canada, in straight sets in final on September 12, 2021, early morning. World No 150 Raducanu is the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title in tennis. Raducanu beat Leylah 6-4, 6-3 in final to clinch her first Grand Slam singles title and 2,000 WTA Rankings points. Virginia Wade was the last British woman to win a Grand Slam title, Wimbledon title, in 1977.
