Patna : World No 81 Nicolas Jarry, 23, Chile, a qualifier, knocked World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, the 2nd seed, out of the Barcelona Open, an ATP World Tour 500 point clay court tournament, at Barcelona, Spain, in a three-set thriller. Jarry stunned Alexander Zverev 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 in 2 hr 33 minute in the 2nd round on April 23, 2019.
Jarry won 68 service points to 65 by Zverev. Jarry broke Zverev’s service 4 times while the latter broke his service 5 times in the match. But, Zverev committed 10 double faults to 4 by Jarry. Zverev, however, fired 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Jarry. Zverev had lost in the 3rd round of ATP Monte-Carlo Masters 1,000 last week.
World No 57 Jaume Munar, 21, Spain, advanced to the 3rd round of the tournament beating World No 30 Frances Tiafoe, 21, USA, 6-4, 6-3 in 1hr 25 minute in the 2nd round. Munar fired 4 Aces in the match to none by Tiafoe. Mjunar broke Tiafoe’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke his service twice.
