Patna : Top seed Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of World No 107 Ilya Ivashka, 27, Belarus, in quarter-finals of BMW Open, an ATP 250points clay court event, at Munich, Germany, on April 30, 2021. Qualifier Ivashka, who had recently given a torrid time to World No 2 Rafael Nadal in first round of Barcelona Open, Spain, stunned World No 6 Zverev in a three-set battle 6-7,7-5, 6-3 coming from behind in QFs in 2hrs 33 minutes to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
Both Ivashka and Zverev fired 5 Aces each during the match. The Belarusian, however, won 5 break points during the match to 3 by the German. Ivashka won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by Zverev. The German, surprisingly, committed 14 double faults to 4 by Ivashka. The Belarusian won 103 points during the match to 92 by the German.
World No 44 & 7th seed Jan-Lennard Struff, 31, Germany, upset 4th seed & World No 36 Filip Krajinovic, 29, Serbia, in a three-set battle 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in quarter-finals to reach SFs. The German hammered 15 Aces during the match to 6 by the Serbian. Krajinovic committed 8 double faults to 7 by Struff. Both the players won 5 break points each during the match. The Serbian though won 4 games in a row during the match to 3 by the German. Struff, in all, won 131 points during the match to 120 by Krajinovic.
