Gopalganj: A security guard at ICICI Bank Ramnath Rai sustained serious injuries handling a unruly customers and later succumbed to them  while being taken to Gorakhpur, UP,  on Sunday evening. Panic prevailed among the employees of the bank after they received the news of guard’s death. There was long queue of customers outside bank to seek exchange of scrapped currencies.

A large number of people had assembled at the gate of ICICI Bank on Sunday. Rai was trying to streamline the queue  but sustained serious injuries as he was caught in the crowd. When the bank employees came to know about Rai’s  injuries, they admitted him to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where the attending doctors referred him to Gorakhpur in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. However, the injured guard died midway. The bank authorities later informed the
local police about guard’s death.
Late in the evening, some anti-social elements pelted stones at the bank causing damage to the windowscreen of the bank. On getting information, Town police reached the spot and increased security around the bank. Police are probing into the incident.
