Patna: A Purnia based journalist Ashok Kumar was sent to jail on charges of recovery of a liquor bottle outside his house at Khsuki Bagh near Katihar Mor on Friday. Ashok working for the monhtly magazine,Taapman, was caught on Friday night and produced before a magistrate who sent him to jail.
Taapman’s editor Awinsah Chandra Mishra said the liquor bottle wrapped in a polythene bag was found in an abandoned land outside his house. Police had caught a local youth who claimed he was asked to throw the polythene bag on the land having garbage dump.
He is the second journalist to be arrested and sent to jail for alleged violation of the Excise and Prohibition Act. Brajesh Jha, then working for a national multi-lingual TV channel, was arrested and sent to jail a few weeks back. He has been granted bail but the channel management sacked him.
