New Delhi : Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA), on August 6, 2018, launched the official trailer, music and poster of Bollywood film “Halkaa” under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), in partnership with the New Delhi Municipal Council, here.
On this occasion, Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary-HUA, Naresh Kumar, Chairman, NDMC, V K Jindal, Joint Secretary and National Mission Director, SBM Urban, Nila Madhab Panda, Director of the film, Shankar Mahadevan –singer cum music director, child actor Pichku, lead actors Ranvir Shorey and Paoli Dam, and Roshni Nadar Malhotra of Shiv Nadar Foundation, the producer of the film were also present. The launch event was also attended by school children and teachers from government schools in Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Puri pointed out that given the stated objective of the flagship programme of the Government of India, Swachh Bharat Mission, to achieve open defecation free status for all cities and towns by October 2, 2019, it is expected that the film can contribute to the aim of achieving an Open Defecation Free India and accelerate the pace of achieving the Swachh Bharat Mission’s targets through its powerful message.
“Halkaa” (Relief) is the story of an 8-year-old boy Pichku who aspires for a better quality of life. The film is a unique take on the child (Pichku)’s heroism: the boy refuses to be part of the age-old practice of open defecation and decides to make a change for his betterment. It is his dream to make a toilet of his own. “Halkaa” poignantly captures the journey of this simple and under -privileged child’s dedication, struggle, and aspiration for achieving the goal of owning a personal toilet for his family despite resistance from his father. In turn, he becomes a hero in his slum community, according to a PIB release.
Film director Nila Madhab Panda is a Padma Shri awardee whose earlier films include the highly-acclaimed “I Am Kalam”, “Jalpari-the desert Mermaid”, “Kaun Kitney Paani Mein” and ‘Kadvi Hawa’.
While Halkaa is slated for release on September 5, 2018, in India, the film has already won numerous awards and accolades in the international arena including two prestigious Grand Prix – Best Feature Film awards at Montreal International Children’s Film Festival and KINOLUB Film Festival for Children and Youth in Poland.
A highlight of the launch event included a live performance by Shankar Mahadevan of the film’s music track. The event was screened simultaneously through webcast across the country enabling school children from various states to view the live launch.

SHANGHAI, Oct 9 (Reuters) – China’s yuan held steady against the U.S.
dollar on Wednesday, as investors awaited more stimulus from the world’s second-largest economy and the Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes due later in the day to gauge its
policy path. The dollar held steady, giving
some relief to the yuan after a sharp rally to a
seven-week high last week.
Spot yuan opened at 7.0650 per dollar and was last trading 12 pips lower
than the previous late session close at 7.066. Prior to the market opening, the
People’s Bank of China (PBOC) set the midpoint rate, around which the
yuan is allowed to trade in a 2% band, at 7.0568 per
dollar, only 3 pips weaker than a Reuters’ estimate.
China’s blue-chip CSI300 index dropped for the first time since Sept.
13, poised to snapping a 10-day winning streak, after
officials on Tuesday failed to offer much new on stimulus plans to revive the economy.
The yuan is down 0.7% against the dollar so far
this month, due to broad dollar strength, but the
currency has 0.5% firmed for the year-to-date.
China equities’ recent rally has raised the bar for an upside surprise
from expected fiscal stimulus news, said UBS strategists led by Rohit Arora,
adding that the offshore yuan’s near-term risk reward is unattractive.
“Historically, fizzling of China equities’ spurts acted as a bigger drag on CNH vis-à-vis the tailwinds from equities’ surge,” the strategists said.
Nevertheless, market participants are still awaiting additional stimulus measures that could
help further lift China asset sentiment. Citi FX traders
think the offshore yuan could trade well if local equities
remain supported, similar to what happened in Nov.
2022 – Jan. 2023, according to the bank’s note to clients.
The offshore yuan traded at 7.0682 yuan per dollar,
up about 0.09% in Asian trade. The dollar’s six-currency index was 0.039% higher at 102.53.

Aussie actor Russell Crowe has always worn his heart
on his sleeve – sometimes to his detriment – but he has vowed to reel it in when watching his beloved Souths play NRL matches from now
on.
Crowe became a co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2006,
alongside businessman Peter Holmes à Court, with the aim of revitalising the NRL club
that was struggling at the time.
Under his leadership, the Rabbitohs achieved financial stability and
secured a premiership victory in 2014, ending a 43-year drought.
Crowe was instrumental in recruiting star players like Sam
Burgess and Greg Inglis to the team, which significantly improved their performance.
He has often been seen passionately supporting the Rabbitohs at games, with media capturing moments of his animated reactions
during key matches.
However the Gladiator star has vowed to show more
of a poker face at future games for one big reason.
Hollywood actor Russell Crowe is a part owner of the
South Sydney Rabbitohs and is a constant figure in the stands of home games
Crowe bought into the club in 2006 and has been a passionate supporter of
the club since he was a child
Crowe, who was instrumental in bringing premiership players like
Greg Inglis and Sam Burgess (pictured) to the club, has vowed to temper his emotions
from now on
‘Nah [losing doesn’t impact my mood]…it is what it is, I can’t affect that outcome so
you sort of just have to accept what’s going on,’ he
told Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie.
‘A long time ago when I’d be going to Rabbitohs games when my kids were little and stuff, and I realised that by
showing my passion in the grandstands was potentially giving the
media outlets a way of mentally affecting the team.
‘There was all these photos of me strangling the imaginary referee.
‘So, I thought, ‘I’m gonna stop doing that’.
I’d go to a game and see what happens then I’d go backstage and you can swear.
‘But when I’m watching the game, I try and keep my cool…because you know I think
about it from the players’ perspective.
They don’t want to see the boss looking like he’s pissed off in the Monday
newspaper. So you’ve got to be cool about it.’
Souths fans – including Crowe – endured a torrid 2024 season,
finishing 16th with a 7-17 record.
Injuries and suspensions played their part but defensive frailties were
the biggest issue, with the Rabbitohs conceding an average of 28.4 points
per game – their worst since 2006.
The Rabbitohs have gone back to the future by sacking coach
Jason Demetriou and re-instating former mentor Wayne Bennett
Souths fans will be hoping to see a fit and firing Latrell Mitchell back on the park next season
Injuries compounded their struggles, with key players like
Campbell Graham missing the entire season and Latrell Mitchell limited to 11 appearances.
The season’s disappointments led to the dismissal of coach Jason Demetriou,
with Wayne Bennett set to return as head coach in 2025.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Rabbitohs have bolstered their roster by signing English halfback Lewis Dodd, Euan Aitken and Josh Schuster.
The 2025 season kicks off with a match against Bennett’s former club the
Dolphins.
